Itinerary-details of the tour:
Montalcino, the medieval town
south of Siena, home to Brunello (San Giovese Grosso
grape) vineyards producing the famous wine, one of the
most know and appreciated in the world.
Brunello born
one century ago, as a result of a costant research and
experiment.
The regulation
for the Brunello is very severe about the production
area (only the territory of Montalcino), the grapes (san
giovese, named Brunello in Montalcino), alcoholic
gradation (minimum 12%), the form of bottles (only in
Bordeaux type bottles), the age (5 years after the
harvest year and 6 years for the Riserva), the bottling
(must take place in the production area).
During our
drive to Montalcino, we’ll admire the particular
landscape in the South of Siena, known as Crete (Clay),
desolate and arid hills devoid of vegetation and
streaked with deep flows created by the surface water
draining down from the peaks.
Before reaching
Montalcino, we’ll stop at a real and authentic Vineyard,
where you’ll see the cellars with its oak Barrels aging
the Brunello, you’ll taste a Rosso di Montalcino or an
IGT red wine, a Brunello di Montalcino and we’ll taste
the wine together with the wine maker.
We’ll have
lunch in another beautiful vineyard together with
the owner, we’ll walk through his vineyard and olive
grove and you’ll learn everything about the Brunello
grapes.: San Giovese Grosso ,called Brunello by the
locals for its little brown skins.
To finish the
day, if we have time, we’ll make a stop in Montalcino
to admire this little medieval town and stroll around
its fascinating streets and squares.
