Chianti Classico and Super Tuscan are the main wines produced by Le Filigare, a farm in the Chianti heart, San Donato in Poggio, 34 km from Florence, that makes extra virgin olive oil, grappa and brandy too. Filigare is the name of the hill where the winery is. In the past the medieval hamlet was named Fiaccole di Sopra and was illuminated by torches for the patron saint festival. Filigare has been the first “holiday home” in Chianti, in the 1990’s. In 1875 the house hosted Pope Pio IX invited by the past owner, the Archduke of Tuscany, to relax and taste local good food and wines.
Today the farm has 11 hectares of vineyards, mostly Sangiovese with a small quantity of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
Chianti Classico Le Filigare
Tasting notes: intense ruby red with purple nuances; harmonic smell of berry as blueberry and blackberry with spicy and floral hints; flavor rightly tannic, large and balanced.
Grapes varieties: 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, 5% Colorino
Food pairings: Tuscan food, tomato bruschetta (toasted bread with oil and chopped tomatoes).
Chianti Classico Riserva Maria Vittoria
Tasting notes: bright consistent ruby red; fruity perfume, with morello cherry and mulberry, hints of cardamom, coffee beans and peppermint; fresh, structured and persistent flavor.
Grapes varieties: 90% sangiovese, 5% colorino, 5% merlot.
Food pairings: roasted meat and game, tasty food.
Pietro Super Tuscan
Tasting notes: ruby red with burgundy nuances; a rich range of deep hints: blueberry and violet with tarragon and jasmine tea, leather; large and velvety taste of spices and wild strawberries, balanced, persistent.
Grapes varieties: 70% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 15% Sangiovese.
Food pairings: cured meat, aged cheese, tasty food.
Le Filigare wines have obtained many prizes and awards over the years.
The farm, laid on the top of the hill and surrounded by vineyards and olive tree groves, can host 66 people and is suitable for ceremonies as weddings or similar. The apartments are built and furnished in Tuscan architecture style with beam and vaulted arches.
